Abstract
The main progress of nanofriction mechanism of graphene and graphene-based lubricating materials as lubrication film, additive and filler was summarized. Several methods including self-assembly, multilayer architecture, surface chemical modification used to improve the graphene-substrates adhesion, dispersion of graphene in various lubricants, and interfacial bonding strength between graphene and matrix materials, as well as antifriction and antiwear mechanisms of graphene were illustrated. It was pointed out that the problem existed now and more efforts should be made with respect to the research on graphene as high performance lubricant.
