Study of Tribological Properties and Anti-wear and Friction-reducing Mechanism of Imidazoline Borate as Lubricating Addtive

  • A series of imidazoline borates were synthesized.Their tribological behavior as lubricating oil additives in liquid paraffin was evaluated on the Four-ball tester and SRV tester. The worn scars of the steel balls, lubricated with liquid paraffin and 2%MBA-2+liquid paraffin separately under the load 392 N,were observed with scanning electron microscope, the chemical state of some typical elements on the worn surfaces were analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The anticorrosion property and thermal stability were also investigated. The imidazoline borate MBA-2 added in the liquid paraffin could greately reduce friction coefficient and minish the wear scar diameter and enhance extreme pressure meanwhile it exhibited good corrosion resistance and themal stability due to the formation of the tribo-film consist of B_2O_3,ferror oxide, organic compound containing nitrogen on the worn surface during the rubbing process.
