Study of Laser Surface Texturing for Improving Tribological Properties

  • Laser surface texturing as an approach for the application of sliding contact components has provided very outstanding tribological performance. This paper introduces laser texturing processing and tribological status of laser surface texturing in industry. The effect of laser-textured structural factors such as shape, diameter, depth, orientation and density on friction mechanism and lubricating state was discussed. With the integration of advanced coating technologies with laser texturing, lower friction coefficient can be achieved under mixed-boundary lubricated condition. It was suggested to focus on the theoretical research of laser-textured optimal parameter by simulating and computing to achieve lubricating demands under practical working condition.
