Abstract
A series of brake friction tests on a fibre reinforced composite brake pad and a HZ408 brake pad materials rubbing against a brake disc material were carried out on a friction and wear tester of MM-1000 type.During the test, the coefficient of friction, temperature increment and wear mass loss of both materials were measured. The worn surface morphologies were observed using a Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope(CLSM).The initial brake speed had a smaller influence on the friction coefficient of the fibre reinforced composite than it exerted the influence on that of the HZ408 brake pad.The fibre reinforced composite exhibited a larger averaged friction coefficient than the HZ408 brake pad did at a high speed. The wear mass loss of the fibre reinforced composite was found to be slightly larger than that of the HZ408 brake pad.At a low speed, the temperature increments of both pad materials were close to each other. At a high speed, the temperature increment of the fibre reinforced composite was found to be slightly larger than that of the HZ408 brake pad.
