A New Index for Quantitative Monitoring of Wear Debris

A new metal wear debris monitoring instrument(MDMI)was developed based on traditional direct reading ferrograph.The precipitation behaviors of sub magnetic debris,magnetic debris,and the mixture of sub magnetic debris and magnetic debris were examined with the instrument. Thus a new index for quantitative analysis of wear debris is redefined. Two approaches to set the values of the index alarm are suggested.
