Abstract
The friction and wear properties of Cr2O3 coating lubricated by oils and additives were studied using a block-on-ring tester. As a result, compared with liquid paraffin , glycol oleate has the good friction-reducing effect but tributyl phosphate and sulphurized olefin do not, tributyl phosphate has significant wear-reducing function but not with glycol oleate and sulphurized olefin. The analytical results of profiles and chemical composition of worn surfaces indicate that the wear resistance of tributyl phosphate is due to the formation of tribochemical reaction films on the rubbing surface and no wear-reducing action of sulphurized olefin is due to lacking tribochemical reaction between Cr2O3 coating and sulphurial olefin or its decomposed products.
