Influencing Factors on Wear and Wear Mechanism in Cold Rolling of Aluminum

  • The wear of aluminum surface after rolling is an important index for rolling of aluminum. Aluminum debris generated in rolling deteriorated the product quality and lower the rolling efficiency. In this paper, different additives were selected to confect oils that were used in cold rolling of aluminum. The influences of three factors including additive, the original surface quality of the aluminum and rolling reduction were researched. The abrasive wear of aluminum was mild when composite additive were used in rolling oils. The surface of unrolled aluminum was characterized by many grooves. These grooves were compacted and as a result, a large number of aluminum debris generated and became “the third body”. These debris enhances abrasive wear of aluminum. Chemical wear and ploughing wear can be found in the rolling process. When oil film was thick, the former played a dominant role. When it was thin, the latter was the predominated one.
