Friction and Wear Properties of C/C-SiC Ceramic Composites

  • A series of C/C-SiC composites were produced by chemical vapor infiltration method using CH3SiCl3 as reaction gas, argon as cartier gas, and hydrogen as dilution gas. The friction and wear properties of materials were studied by friction test at MM-1000 friction and wear equipment. The effect of different initial density and ent content on friction and wear properties was analyzed in detail. The result shows that, with the increasing of the perform density, the average friction coefficient, friction force and absorption power per unit area increased while the braking time and linear wear decreased. Stationary friction moment testing of C/C-SiC composites show that the samples exhibited high stationary friction coefficient. Friction and wear properties of C/C-SiC composites related close-knit to initial density of perform. Perform with initial density of 1.44 g/cm^3 is suitable as braking materials.
