Abstract
The tribological properties and wear behaviour of fast brush plated nickel layer were studied as compared with those of 45 steel (quenching and tempering) on Model MM-200 wear tester under oil lubrication containing Al2O3 particles. The results shown that not only the friction coefficient and wear volume of brush plated nickel layer is lower than those of 45 steel but also the stable wear period of the layer is longer than that of 45 steel. It was suggested that because the pores of fast brush plated layer are both of assistance in lubrication by absorbing and storing lubricating oil and the abrasive particles can be embeded in these pores to decrease the abrasive wear,as well as the plasticity can be improved with the temperature rising during friction, the friction-wear properties are superior to those of 45 steel of high hardness.
