Abstract
Two different heaping weld materials of brake disc were obtained by optimization process, and two different materials of brake block were developed. All the developed heaping weld materials of brake disc and brake block materials were screened and matched by experimental investigation of the variable temperature friction and wear characteristic with an MMW 1 friction and wear tester. The tribological properties of the braking discs and blocks were comparatively evaluated as well. As the results, the tribological performance of the braking pair was affected to some extent by the matching of the frictional pair materials. The two different heaping weld material discs matched with the two brake-blocks showed higher average and thermal frictional coefficients as well as good wear-resistance at high temperature. The best tribological behavior was observed for the frictional pair compsed of the second welding material and the second asbestos-free brake block composite. Thus it could be screened and used as the optimum disc-block braking pair to be used in drilling rig.
