Abstract
Water-based coating was prepared by using GFJ04 high-speed disperser. Main components of water- based coating, which probably influence friction coefficient of coated paper, were studied. Worn surfaces of coating layer were examined on a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results indicated that higher precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) ratio to clay in mixed pigments resulted in higher static and dynamic friction coefficient. Calendering decreased friction coefficient of coated paper. Adding of GCC from 0% to 20% increased friction coefficient of coated paper in Clay/PCC/GCC mixed coating formulation, but with added amount of GCC increasing, friction coefficient decreased. Addition of Latex from 6% to 10% decreased friction coefficient, but static friction coefficient had maximum value. at 18%. Among the different lubricants used in coating, PE emulsion and OPE emulsion decreased friction coefficient effectively and they had more effects on dynamic friction coefficientthan on static friction coefficient.
