Breakup Phenomenon of Droplets Impacting on a Superhydrophobic Brass Surface

  • Experiment of droplets impacting and breakup on self-fabricated superhydrophobic brass surface had been recorded with a high speed camera, and breakup dynamics, the condition to break up and diameter's spreading regularity were also analyzed. The results demonstrate that droplets of different diameters broke up at certain velocities. The larger volume of droplets, the lower critical velocity for breakup. In accordance with energy conversion, theoretical analysis of breakup process was given and a function to predict the critical impact velocity was derived from energy conservation condition. The calculated values were in good agreement with the experimental values, with the maximum relative error of less than 10%.
