The Study on Friction-Wear Properties of Carbon Fibre-Reinforced Lead Based Alloys Composites

More Information
  • The friction-wear properties of several carbon fibre-reinforced lead based all Oyscomposites were tested under given conditions. It was found that the friction factors and wear rates of these composites with dry friction were all lower than that of lead based Babbitt alloys'si whereas under 20, mechanical oil lubrication, the friction coefficientes of composites were much higher than that of lead based Babbitt alloys's, and the formers' wear-resistances were relatively poor. Finally, the test results was interpreted by the observation of wear surface with SEM. As serious adhesion of the surface of lead based Babbitt alloys occur- red during wear process, so the higher friction and strenuous wear were produced? the carbon fibre tip which project over surface bore the most of load, the contact stress between the surfaces increased, it was difficut to form lubrication oil film in the case of oil lubricating. Unlike liquid oil film, carbon fibres were not of good lubrication property, therefore in the dry friction circumstances, the coefficient of friction was higher. When the slide speed and normal load were lower, the friction heat decreased obviously, and carbon fibre reduced the abrasion to a great degree, its wear speed was lower and superior to lead based Babbitt alloy under load lower than 400N.
