Abstract
To investigate the tribological property of textured surface under reciprocating motion, the friction coefficients of four tribo-pairs with dimple densities of 0%、7%、11% and 20% were measured on a pin-on-disc test apparatus at various sliding speeds. The results showed that under reciprocating motion, the surface texture expanded the sliding speed for hydrodynamic lubrication, which was in good agreement with the results acquired under rotation motion. Friction coefficients of textured surface in the hydrodynamic lubrication regime was not always lower than that of untextured surface in the mixed lubrication regime under the same load and speed. Friction coefficient of textured surface was higher than that of untextured surface as the latter was in the hydrodynamic lubrication regime. The last two results were different from the results acquired under rotation motion. Thereby, the mode of motion of the tribo-pairs should be considered in the tribological design of textured surface.
