Abstract
The natures of openness, complexity, and far-from equilibrium of an abrasive wear working system were investigated making use of non-equilibrium system and thermodynamics of irreversible process, taking into account the relation and interaction between the abrasive wear system and the environment. In combination with the analysis of the negative entropy flow of the abrasive wear working system, the irreversibility, the total entropy changes of different natures corresponding to different wear conditions, and the possibility for the dissipative structures to appear and their main types were analyzed. This led to the establishment of the abrasive wear working system (AWWS) and abrasive wear resistant material database (AWRMD) of multiple functions. Moreover, the features and applicability of the abrasive wear resistant material database were discussed. It was found that the established database was capable of providing several routes for material searching and various ways for material selection.
