Influence of Electric Current Pulse on the Friction and Wear Behavior of H0Cr17Ni6Mn3 Steel Wire in Drawing

  • The influence of high density direct current pulses on the friction and wear behavior of H0Cr17Ni6Mn3 steel wires in drawing deformation was investigated. The surface morphologies of the drawn steel wires were observed with a scanning electron microscope so as to compare the deformation and wear mechanisms of the steel wires under the two different drawing conditions. It was found that the wear mechanism of the wires was changed by the application of current pulse in the drawing deformation. The size and number of microcracks on the surface of as drawn wires were obviously decreased while the width and depth of the grooves on the surface increased with the increment of the frequency of current pulses employed. The microhardness of the as drawn wires was reduced and their tensility increased in the presence of the current pulses as well.
