Friction and Wear Properties of Sm2O3 Filled PTFE/Hybride Fiber Composites

  • Effect of Sm2O3 on friction and wear properties of PTFE/hybride fiber composites have been investigated using an MM-200 wear tester. Addition of Sm2O3 improved the mechanical and friction and wear properties of PTFE/hybride fiber composites, especially improved greatly the friction reducing properties of composites. The tensile strength, bending strength and hardness of PTFE/15% CF/10% GF composites after adding 1% Sm2O3 increased 9. 0%, 5.1% and 49.1% respectively, while the friction coefficient and wear width decreased 22% and 5.4%. The lubrication of Sm2O3 helped in maintaining a lower friction coefficient, prevented matrix and fibers from abrasion, and increased wear resistance.
