Analysis of Thermoelastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Sliding Surfaces with Zero Entrainment Velocity

  • The entrainment velocity is generally considered essential in the traditional steady state elastohydrodynamic lubrication theories. However, a steady state thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication film of enough thickness could be formed between the contact surfaces of two cylinders moving at a velocity of the same magnitude but in opposite directions (referring to an entrainment velocity of zero). In such a case the contact surfaces take a shape of concave in the middle, and the concavity increases with increasing load but decreases with increasing surface velocity.
