Wear Characteristics of ATM Tribosystem in Sand Dust Environment

  • Wear performance of ATM (Auto Teller Machine) tribosystem was studied in simulated sand dust environment with nature sand from TAKEMANKAN desert and sand deposition flux 960 kg/m~2.day. Abrasive wear characteristics of polymer tape of PEN (polyethylene-2, 6-naphthalenedicarboxylate) and PI (polyimide) due to sand particles was investigated at loads of 0.6, 1 and 1.5 N with/without bill substrate. Experimental results show that PI tape exhibits higher wear resistance to the sand particles than PEN does and that abrasive wear performance of PEN tape with bill substrate is improved obviously. The wear mechanism of polymer tapes is severe chipping by sand particles for PEN, and micro-ploughing and fatigue flaking for PI.
