Abstract
The friction and wear properties of WSi 2/MoSi 2 composites in dry sliding against AISI 1045 steel were investigated with an MM 200 friction and wear tester. The worn surfaces were analyzed by means of scanning electron microscopy, X ray diffraction and electron probe microanalysis. Results showed that WSi 2/MoSi 2 composite had more steady friction and wear behavior than MoSi 2 at a load above 80 N. Especially, they showed better friction and wear behavior than MoSi 2 in a load range of 85 135 N. This was mainly attributed to the different microstructures and wear mechanisms of the two kinds of materials. WSi 2/MoSi 2 composite was dominated by brittle fracture and adhesion in sliding against the steel.
