Study of Tribological Properties of Short Carbon Fiber Reinforced Cu-Sn-Zn Matrix Composites

  • Short carbon fiber reinforced Cu-Sn-Zn matrix composites and bronze with composition of Cu,6%Sn,6%Zn and 3%Pb(663 bronze) were prepared by powder metallurgy method.Their mechanical properties and tribological performance were investigated as a comparison.Experiments indicated that wear rate and friction coefficient of composites were lower than that of bronze, and when volume fraction of carbon fiber was no more than 12%,mechanical performance of the composites was prior to that of the bronze.SEM observation indicated that dominant wear mechanism of the composites was adhesive wear, while that of 663 bronze was adhesive wear and abrasive wear.
