Testing of Friction Coefficients of Material Loaded by Shock Wave

  • Three materials an MDF concrete, rigid polyurethane foam, and rubber were selected to investigate their friction behavior when they were loaded by compressive pulse. A new developed split Hopkinson compression-shear bars were built up, which can test specimens in pressure and shear loading. The results showed that the friction coefficients among three materials were all time dependent, and were sensitive to the loading amplitude. At impacting condition, rigid polyarethane foam, rubber, and MDF concrete exhibited static friction coefficient of 0.29, 0.285, 0.28 - 0.29, and dynamic friction coefficient of 0.25,0.24, 0.23 respectively when running against aluminum lever.
