Research on Tribological Properties of Wear-Resistant Polytetrafluoroethylene Fabric

  • The tribological properties of polytetrafluroethylene fabric (PTFE fabric) were investigated on MPX 200 and MM 200 friction and wear tester and oscillating tester. Comparative friction and wear tests were conducted for PTFE fabrics of 80% and 50% fiber under the lubrication of different liquids. The morphology of the worn surface of the fabrics was examined with an optical microscope. The results show that PTFE content in the fabric influences the friction and wear behavior considerably. Higher content of PTFE results in lower friction coefficient and lower heat generation, and hence smaller wear. The bushes made of PTFE fabrics oscillated for 25 000 cycles according to aviation criterion registers wear depth less than 0.15 mm.
