The Influence of Load Offsetting on the EHL of Tapered Roller

Abstract
Numerical analysis is carried out for elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) of tapered roller considering the moment balance. Under load offsetting condition, the EHL of tapered roller is analyzed, the relation between the load location and the location angle of roller is obtained, and the effects of the corner radius of roller's ends and the velocity parameter on the pressure and film thickness are discussed. The results show that, first, one end of roller can be raised by the load offsetting, so that another end supports the load alone. The lubrication status of the load-carrying end is dangerous because of thinner film thickness and higher pressure, hence partial wear of roller is easy to be found. Second, when the big end supports the load, the EHL is better than that while the small end does; optimal lubrication status of tapered roller, therefore, is that the load moves to a certain place of the big end. Third, with the increasing corner radius of roller's ends and the velocity parameter, the lubrication of tapered roller becomes better.
