Abstract
The erosive wear behavior of SiC and Al 2O 3 particle reinforced silicone matrix composite coatings (SMCC) was investigated on a gas blast rig. It has been found that the erosion rate of SMCC was one order of magnitude lower than that of pure silicone coating when suitable reinforcing agent, resin ratio and components were selected. The SEM pictures of the worn surface morphology indicate that the main erosive wear mechanisms of SMCC are micro ploughing and micro cutting under low velocity, that at high erosive velocity are mainly formation and propagation of micro cracks, accompanied by micro cutting and micro ploughing.
