A Study on Friction and Wear of Aluminium Bronzes in Different Media

Abstract
Friction and wear behavior of two aluminium bronze specimens(Cu-14%Al-X and QAl9-4) was examined using reciprocating tester in different media(3.5%NaCl,5%H2SO4,pure water,air) and a single pendulum impact scratch tester.The results show that high aluminium bronze(Cu-14%Al-X) exhibited better wear resistance than QAl9-4 both in steady or impact loading, and the wear loss of two bronze specimens in solutions was lower than those in dry sliding,except that when the rubbing pair immersed in pure water at high load,the frictional coefficient in pure water was high than those in corrosive solutions even in dry sliding.The obvious effect of corrosive products and rubbing heat on the improvement of friction and wear performance of aluminium bronzes was verified by determination of frictional coefficient in different cooling environment and by measuring hardness of heated samples.
