Study on the Friction and Wear Properties of Electrochemical Deposited Polymeric Films

  • P01ypyrrole andpoly-N-methylpyrrole films were electrochemical deposited, and theirfriction and wear properties are experimentally investigated. It was shown that the tribologicalbehavior of the two kinds of polymer films has a close relation with the monomer type, theelectrolyte composition, the oxidation state and the film thickness,The friction and wear propertiesof poly-N-methylpyrrole film are better than those of polypyrrole film. It was also found that whenthe thickness of polypyrrole film is smaller, the oxidized ones gave a better friction property but theits antiwear property is poorer than that of reduced ones;the contrary case will occur when thepolypyrrole film possesses a higher film thickness. The study also revealed that the polymeric filmswith small film thickness undergo adhesive wear, whereas either cohesive wear or fatigue wearmight occur with thicker films.
