An Investigation of Rail Corrugation

  • The corrugated rail samples from work site have been examined with scanning electron microscope and hardness tester. The occurrence and growth of the rail corrugation were investigated. It was found that rail corrugation was dependent on rail plastic deformation. It would be enhanced as locomotive vehicle structure became similar and the train speed was about the same. The rail corrugation could be effectively refrained by using rail steel of high yield strength.
