Abstract
The history of Langmuir Blodgett film (LB film) was reviewed briefly. The method for preparing different kinds of LB film, the present situation of LB film lubrication in magnetic record technique, the factors affecting the quality of LB film were summarized, and the effects of velocity, load and layer number of LB film on their tribological behavior were also discussed. Finally, some problems of LB film lubrication which should be studied in future are proposed.
a. Improving the design, synthesis and preparation of film materials to overcome the disadvantages of short life, low stability and weak adhesive strength.
b. Introducing metal ion or inserting other molecular, which has lubricating effect, into LB film to prepare ultrathin lubricating film.
c. Studying the surface chemistry, tribochemistry, as well as the relationship between property and structure of LB film to understand the friction mechanism.
d. Developing new testing instruments and new characterization technique for LB film.
It is suggested that the LB film is a potential material in space technique or ultra-thin film lubricating under low load conditions besides application in magnetic record technique.
