Tribological Properties of Biomorphic Woodceramics

Abstract
Biomorphic woodceramics were prepared from bagasse powders impregnated with epoxy resin followed by sintering in vacuum. The pore size distribution and total porosity of the woodceramics were measured. The tribological properties were evaluated using the friction and wear tester under dry sliding condition. The morphology of the worn surfaces of the woodceramics was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy. The wear mechanism of the woodceramics was discussed briefly. The results show that the wear mechanisms of woodceramics were abrasive wear and adhesive wear. The carbon membrane generated on the worn surface, was self-lubricating. When the content of the bagasse increased, the porosity, friction coefficient and wear rate increased. The wear mechanism of the woodceramics was severe abrasive wear. And the carbon membrane was not formed on the worn surface.
