Wear Resistance of ZCuPb20Sn5 Alloy

  • The ZCuPb20Sn5 alloy, as the lining material of the plunger pump rotor, has exceptional anti-friction and wear resistance due to its high content of lead, which prevent the rotar from wear failure during the operation. Pin-disk friction and wear testing machine was applied in this study. ZCuPb20Sn5 alloy and 45 steel were selected as the friction pair to study the lubricated tribological properties of ZCuPb20Sn5 under different PV values. The results showed that the wear rate and friction coefficient increased firstly and then decreased, while the wear rate increased with the increasing PV values. Under a load of 50 N and a speed of 2.410 m/s, the wear rate and friction coefficient (0.010) were the lowest, and the average friction coefficient was as low as 0.063. Under a load of 250 N, a speed of 3.610 m/s and 128 MPa·m/s PV value, the friction coefficient was as low as 0.070, and the wear rate was 2.972×10−7 mm3/(N·m). Under the maximum PV value, the friction coefficient and wear rate were the highest. Under the loads lower than 150 N, the main wear mechanism was mild adhesive wear. Under the loads higher than 150 N, because of the synergistic effect of lead and oil, the wear mechanism was mainly adhesive wear accompanied by mild abrasive wear. Under the loads higher than 250 N, both the friction coefficient and wear rate were high, and the mechanism was mainly abrasive wear and mild oxidation wear.
