Influence of Elliptical Section Pressure Groove on Slot-Restricted Aerostatic Bearing

  • The aerostatic bearing with radial pressure groove was designed to improve the static characteristics of the slot-restricted aerostatic bearing. The circumferential section of the pressure groove was fan-shaped and the radial section of the pressure groove was elliptic. The results show that the radial pressure groove can optimize the loading capacity and stiffness of the aerostatic bearing, but the corresponding gas consumption would increase. Increasing the height, the radiation angle, the number and the radius of the pressure groove can all increase the loading capacity of the aerostatic bearing. The thickness of the gas film corresponding to the peak of the stiffness increased with the increase of the height of the pressure groove, but the peak value of the stiffness remained basically unchanged. The gas film thickness corresponding to the peak of the stiffness increased with the increase of the radiation angle of the pressure groove and the peak value of the stiffness also increased slightly. The gas film thickness corresponding to the peak of the stiffness remained basically unchanged when the number of the pressure groove was greater than four, but the peak value of the stiffness increased significantly with the increase of the number. When the stiffness reached the maximum value, the gas film thickness decreased with the increase of the pressure groove radius, but the peak of the stiffness increased with the increase of the pressure groove radius.
