Microstructure and Impact Wear Properties of High Manganese Steel

Abstract
The wear properties of ZGMn13Cr2 steel and Fe-13Mn-xAl-C (x=3, 5) high manganese steel under impact energy of 0.5 J, 1.0 J, 2.0 J and 4.0 J were investigated. By using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, the influences of microstructure and impact on morphology of worn steel surface were observed and analyzed. The results show that the wear resistances of Fe-13Mn-3Al-C and Fe-13Mn-5Al-C high manganese steels at 0.5 J were 4.39 times and 3.82 times that of ZGMn13Cr2, respectively. The wear mechanisms of ZGMn13Cr2 steel and Fe-13Mn-xAl-C(x=3, 5) of high manganese steel were mainly micro-cutting under low stress (0.5 J).
