Effect of Filling Material into Grooves on the Interfacial Friction-Induced Vibration and Noise

  • Grooves with parallel regular intervals were manufactured on cast iron materials, accordingly, aluminum and steel materials are filled into the grooves, respectively. Experimental test and numerical simulation were performed to investigate the influence of grooves filling material on friction-induced vibration and noise, after compared with the case of base material. It shows that filling aluminum material into the grooves could significantly increase interfacial wear and friction coefficient, accelerate the generation of unstable vibration and accordingly cause the higher squeal noise generation. On the contrary, filling steel material into the grooves could visibly delay the generation of interfacial unstable vibration and noise. In addition, the numerical results show that the contact nonlinearity caused by the wear and wear debris was the main reason for the generation of multiple frequency unstable vibration noise.
