Influence of Fretting Wear on Fretting Fatigue Properties of Press-Fitted Shaft

  • A finite element based model was used to predict the effect of fretting wear on fretting fatigue properties of press-fitted shaft. The numerical simulation model was developed by using the SWT critical plane approach, linear damage accumulation model and wear model. It shows that the predicted results were much more accurate when considering the effect of fretting wear. The stress concentration near the contact rim decreased markedly due to the fretting wear, and therefore the fretting fatigue life increased. With the increase of fretting cycles, the SWT parameters decreased gradually and the location of the maximum value moved inward towards the contact zone due to the fretting wear, and the average value of normal stress on the critical plane increased gradually. As a result, the initiation location of fretting crack shifted from the contact rim to the contact zone.
