Abstract

Wetting and lubrication belong to two different research areas, but have an inevitable correlation. In this article, we will discuss the general relationship between surface “wetting” and “lubrication” from a novel aspect. It is demonstrated that for solid-solid friction, the surface “wetting” leads to “lubrication”, but for the solid-liquid friction, the surface “de-wetting” leads to “slip”.
