Abstract: The recent progress in the tribological investigation of automotive friction materials is evaluated in details. The tribological characteristics and functions of different components in the friction materials are reviewed and discussed. The wear mechanisms of the friction materials related to field applications are summerized. Some suggestions for future study and applications are proposed as well.
