Abstract:
Until now there is a few reports on the study of the tribological properties andelectrochemical performance of the ion- beam mixed specimen surface , and so many problems arestill unclear. In this work, Ar+ion beam was used to mix Al/Fe dilayers on 316 stainless steel. Thetribological properties and electrochemical performances was studied. The composition profiles andmicrostructure of the ion beam mixed surface was measured by means of AES,TBM and GXRD.SEM and EDX were also used to analyse the morphology and composition of the wear tracks andcorroded surface. It was found that the new phase FeAl and oxide chromium formed in mixed surface after ion beam mixing, which was supposed to improve the surface microhardness and wearresistance , and a remarkable improvement of the electrochemical performance was observed afterion beam mixing.
