Abstract:
Characterization and correlation of wear behaviour of NiTi SMA in different phases were investigated by using pin-on-disk friction and wear tester, XRD and Optical micrographs. The experimental results indicate that the thermoelastic martensitic transformations caused superelastic effect, the high damping effect and reorientation and coalescence of martensitic plates promoted a high ability to accommodate large deformation without generating permanent damages which may cause wear. The wear resistance was mainly dependent on the transformation tempera- ture for both alloys. Ni atomic percentage and the hardness of the alloys are also important parameters in the wear behavior of NiTi alloys.
