Abstract:
The friction and wear behaviors of TiC/NiCr cermets and their wear mechanism under water lubrication were studied. The results show that TiC based cermets possess excellent wear resistance and low friction coefficient in sliding against AISI1045 steel. Wear resistance of the cermets increased with an increase in the content of TiC particles. The best wear resistance of TiC/NiCr cermet specimen was obtained at a volume fraction of TiC particles 67%. The wear mechanisms of the composites include ploughing and spalling of some TiC particles on the worn surfaces of cermets, and the spalling of TiC particles has a significant influence on the wear resistance. The wear of the composite is also governed by TiC particles delamination.
