Abstract:
Friction and wear behavior and surface chemical effects of epoxy resin at 49 N and 98 N were investigated. The surface profile and functional groups of epoxy surfaces before and after were been analyzed using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. It was found that epoxy exhibited favorable wear resistance at 49 N while brittle dislodgement was perceivable on the worn surface at 98 N. The surface chemical effects of epoxy during dry friction were scission of macromolecular chains and oxidative degradation, and fatigue wear was the main wear mechanism.
