Abstract:
The phase compositions and microstructures of laser transformation hardened, lasermelt-solidification cemented and untreated 2Cr13 stainless steel were investigated using X-raydiffraction and scanning electron microscope. The microhardness distributions and fretting wearresistances of the three specimens were also measured using microhardness tester and fretting wearmachine of model SRV, respectively. Combining the observation of fretted surface,we can draw aconclusion that laser transformation hardening and laser melt-solidification cementation make thefretting wear resistance of 2Cr 13 stainless steel increases by 1.81 and 4.48 times more than theuntreated one. The reason is that the laser treatments change the fretting wear mechanisms fromsevere scratching and adhesion to oxidation wear and delamination damage.
